The next defense by IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24KOs) is ruled out until 2016, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.

Brook was set to make the third defense of the year on October 24th, but then suffered a rib injury in training and withdrew from the bout. He was set to face tough Argentinian Diego Chaves.

“The rib injury, he’s not going to be ready until next year,” Hearn told’s Declan Taylor.

Hearn squashed the looming rumors of Brook being added to the massive card on December 12th, when heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte will collide in the main event.

Brook captured the title last August with a majority decision over Shawn Porter. Before his next defense could be finalized, he was stabbed in the leg by an unknown assailant. The injury pushed back his first defense to March, when he knocked out mandatory challenger Jo Jo Dan. He came back two months later, on May 30th, to get another knockout win, over Frankie Gavin.
