Kell Brook Would Absolutely Destroy Adrien Broner – Hearn

As previously reported, former four division world champion Adrien Broner (32-2, 24KOs) is returning to the welterweight division
Over the last few years, Broner has had three fights in the welterweight division. He won a split decision over Paulie Malignaggi in 2013, lost a twelve round decision to Marcos Maidana in the fall of the same year, and suffered a twelve round decision loss to Shawn Porter last June at a catch-weight of 144.
Five of his last six fights took place in the junior welterweight division.
Earlier this month, Broner stopped British fighter Ashley Theophane in nine rounds. He was unable to make the junior welterweight limit and came in at 140.4-pounds. While the overage seemed a bit minor on paper, Broner stated that his body gave out and he was no longer capable of making the division limit.
While discussing his intention to move back to welterweight, he also revealed his immediate goal of capturing another world title at the weight.
Eddie Hearn, who promotes IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs), is prepared to give Broner a shot as soon as possible. Money won’t be an issue, but Hearn believes Broner will never accept that fight for any amount of financial compensation.
Hearn has a close working relationship with Broner’s adviser, Al Haymon, so putting together a deal would not be a problem. Regardless of the purse or the fight location, Hearn expects Broner to turn the fight down.
“Adrien Broner would not fight Kell Brook in a million years at 147-pounds. He would get absolutely destroyed against Kell Brook. You don’t play with Kell Brook by coming in ill prepared, heavy. This kid has got it all. Just ask anyone in boxing. That’s why it’s so difficult getting him these fights,” Hearn told BoxingScene.com.
“If Broner wants a shot at a title at 147, he’s got it – but he won’t do it.”
